Since 2016, Mr. Walker has been the Director of Bands at First Colonial High School. A lifelong Hampton Roads resident, having completed his high school education at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, then attending Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, where he received a Bachelor of Music with emphasis in Music Education and Special Education in 2014. Upon graduation, Mr. Walker taught middle & elementary orchestra in Virginia Beach. While attending Old Dominion, Mr. Walker performed in various ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Band. Mr. Walker served as the principal trombonist in the Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, and Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Walker studied trombone and euphonium under Dr. James Hall and conducting under Mr. David Walker. In his time at First Colonial, the Band Program has steadily grown & reached new levels of success. The Marching Patriots have been multiple times USBANDS Virginia State Champions & performed in many exciting competitions, including competing in the Bands of America 2017 Southeast Super-Regional held in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (home of the Atlanta Falcons). The Winter Percussion Ensemble has competed in multiple Atlantic Indoor Association competitions, placing 1st in class at each event. Mr. Walker's hard work & dedication to music education was recognized by his peers, being named the First Colonial High School Teacher of the Year for 2020. Mr. Walker is a member of the International Trombone Association, the International Tuba Euphonium Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, and the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. He has been teaching low brass privately for a decade and has had students participate in All-Region and All-State events. Mr. Walker currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA with his Boston Terrier, Ben.
